The Habey Story

Habanero's

"Home Of The Flying Pepper"

Yes, the plane is real...

It’s a PIPER TOMAHAWK!

Habanero’s opened its doors in 1996 as a vision of owners Joe Lange and Vince Totta. Joe an avid pilot and Architect and Vince also a pilot and long-time restauranteur, saw a need for a first-class authentic Mexican dining experience in Lee’s Summit, MO.

In an effort to create a unique eye-catching theme for the business, the idea of mounting a real plane on the roof soon became a great idea. With the purchase of an authentic Piper Tomahawk airplane, Joe researched how to go about anchoring a plane to a building. After hearing of a McDonalds in Arkansas that had an airplane on its roof, Joe jumped in his plane and paid them a visit.

Joe engineered how to do it and soon made the airplane on the roof a reality. Now the aeronautical theme is carried throughout the restaurant from bar drinks to menus and wall deco. Habanero’s is now known by its mascot, “Habey, and the home of the flying pepper”.
